Osteoporosis Screening

Osteoporosis affects over 25 million Americans and is often called the "silent disease" because it can progress for years without any symptoms. Both men and women are at risk for osteoporosis, which can lead to other issues, such as hip injury. Adults achieve their peak bone mass in the third decade of life. After that time, bone mass gradually, but steadily decreases. In women, there is also a significant decrease of bone mass in the immediate postmenopausal period. Other important risk factors that can contribute to developing osteoporosis include Northern European ancestry, hypothyroidism, anticonvulsant medications, and a sedentary lifestyle.

Together with our local partnerships we can determine your risk for osteoporosis by assessing bone mineral density. Scheduling a bone density scan requires a referral. If you would like more information, or a referral for a bone density scan, our physicians and staff would be happy to coordinate treatment for you.
