GIRIDHAR BURRA, M.D.

Dr Burra is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained and board certified in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He specializes in the treatment of complex injuries of the shoulder, elbow and the knee joint and routinely treats all sports related injuries. Dr. Burra Believes treatment of sports injuries is a complex requiring specialization. He is one of the first surgeons in the Chicago land area to be Board certified in Sports Medicine. Dr. Burra was in private practice in the southwest suburbs of Chicago for four years before joining Hinsdale Orthopaedic Associates, S.C. in 2005.

Dr Burra has extensive training in sports medicine. During his orthopaedic residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, he treated injured professional athletes from the New York Jets, Rangers and the Islanders. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine under Dr. James R. Andrews in Alabama where he received specialized training and experience in treating athletes with throwing injuries. While in private practice, he was involved with the Chicago White Sox and the Joliet Jack Hammers as well as numerous college and high school athletes.

Dr. Burra personally staffs multiple after hours Sports Medicine Injury Clinics at our Naperville office. He encourages coaches, trainers and physical therapists to join him in the diagnosis and treatment of the injured athlete. He is actively involved in the prevention of sports injuries by personally educating coaches, athletic trainers and athletes on proper training techniques. He has organized pitching clinics to correct poor throwing mechanics.

Dr. Burra has presented research papers on the mechanics of the rotator cuff and has published articles on athletic injuries of the shoulder and elbow. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on management of sports injuries. He conducts training programs for surgeons in Latin America and Asia.
